Interior Decorating can be intimidating!! But we can follow some simple rules to make it easier!!
Firstly, lets figure out if your home leans cool or warm! How you ask?
Take a look at your fixtures.
Do you have warm woods, brass, golds etc in your fixtures and flooring? If so , you will choose warm colors to decorate with.
Do you have grey/white tile, light colored floors, chrome or nickel fixtures? If so, you will choose cool colors to decorate with.
Here is an example of a cool white and a warm white, when it comes to choosing paint colors.
Choose bedding that makes you feel happy and that will make you comfortable to get a good nights rest. I am personally loving Tencel ™ lately. It is so soft and drapes so well and just feels great against the skin. But I also don’t just like my bed to feel flat and one note, so I choose a second comforter to layer and create interest. Something with a different fabric, with texture, color and pattern.
I am loving the new Pottery Barn Hawthorn Collection.
Drapes can soften the harsh lines that we find in architecture. Use them to soft up those hard lines especially around the windows.
Think about their function as well as their look. Do you need to block the sunlight from your bedroom to improve your sleep? Go for a black out curtain to help block the sun. If you want to add drapes as a decretive element, go for something that has light filtering qualities like a cotton or linen drape.
Area rugs can bring warmth and softness to otherwise cold and hard floors. This can definitely help when you are trying to create an oasis in your bedroom. Think about what you want to feel when. you feet touch the ground in the morning. Start your day off some softness under your rested feet!
A great tip to add some extra bounce is to add a thick rug pad under the area rug!
Have you ever walked into a room and something just feels off? It is more than likely that the artwork in the room is hung either too high or two low! The human eye falls naturally at 60” in a room. So to create a feeling of balance. the center of the art should be at 60” from the ground. Use this rule and you will have perfectly hung artwork, every time.
Artwork above a piece of furniture should be 4-6” above the furniture!
